Courage to Teach History Center for Teacher Formation In the early 1990's, Dr. Palmer and the Fetzer Institute developed the Courage to Teach (CTT) program, which provides personal and professional renewal for public school teachers, administrators and counselors through a two-year program of retreats. The focus is neither on "technique" nor on school reform, but on renewing the inner lives of professionals in education. Piloted in Michigan in 1994-96, positive response led to the program's replication in communities around the United States. CTT programs began in Austin, Dallas and Tarrant County in 1999. In 1997 the Center for Teach Formation was established to provide information, consultation and assistance to communities, schools and colleges interested in initiating CTT and other teacher development and revitalization programs. Tarrant County Courage to Teach In early 1999 an alliance of education institutions established the CTT Partnership to support CTT activities in Tarrant County. Educational partners include the Education Service Center - Region XI, the Fort Worth Education Association, the United Educators Association, TCU and Texas Wesleyan University, which serves as the host institution for the local CTT program. Numerous businesses, congregations, foundations, organizations and schools have joined the partnership to ensure Tarrant teachers receive the support they need. |
