Seasonal Retreat Information

Exploring the heart of teaching leads to renewal
The Tarrant County Courage to Teach seasonal retreat program is designed for PreK-12 educators/leaders on whom our society depends for so much but for whom we provide so little encouragement and support. The retreats focus neither on "technique" nor on school reform, but on renewing the inner lives of professionals in education.

Tarrant County Courage to Teach offers two distinct programs. One addresses the needs of our local teachers and helps to revitalize their spirits and motivation. The second one attends to the needs of leaders in education. It is designed to explore effective leadership from the identity and integrity of the individual.

Retreat Interaction
A cohort of 20 to 30 educators committed to personal and professional growth and renewal gather for five quarterly retreats over an 18-month period. In large-group, small-group and solitary settings, educators explore the "heart of the teacher" by making use of stories from their own journeys, reflections on classroom practice, insights form poets, storytellers and diverse wisdom traditions. Participants are invited to speak honestly about their lives and work and to listen and respond to each other - and to themselves - with encouragement and compassion. Because inner work takes time, participants are asked to commit to faithful attendance at each of the retreats.

Retreats are led by facilitators trained by the Center for Teacher Formation, a national organization charged with the development of Courage to Teach for PreK-12 educators across the country.

Location of Retreats
The retreats are held at locations that provide serene and secluded settings on several acres - away from everyday distractions, inspiring creative thinking and meaningful exchange. Overnight retreat sites provide private, single-room accommodations for each of the retreat participants.
